Youth Council

A Youth Council is a formal body made up of youth leaders selected to serve as representatives of their state, community, or school. Youth councils serve as forums to foster communication, education, and information concerning youth and youth-related issues.

AALEAD Youth Council

The AALEAD High School Youth Council is a collective of 15-20 youth, including Youth Council Ambassadors, who organize together to address the needs and wants of the AALEAD Middle and High School Community, as well as the broader Washington, DC area. Through Youth Council, youth take on leadership roles and gain skills in event planning, public speaking, group facilitation and processing, collaborative work, and community outreach.

Youth Council members shape programming by generating ideas and bringing the needs of their peers and their community to the planning process. Youth Council is an invaluable opportunity to grow as a leader and advocate, both in programs and the larger community.

“This year of Youth Council has been by far the largest in terms of my personal growth… the transitional period of closing out the third year and moving into the fourth has given me a lot of time for self-reflection and got me to a point where I can look back and say this was my proudest year.”
