Michael Wu
MD Youth Facilitation Coordinator
Michael Wu (he/him) serves as the Maryland High School Youth Facilitation Coordinator at Asian American LEAD (AALEAD). A second generation Taiwanese-American born and raised in Rockville, Maryland, he is passionate about bridging hands-on youth programs with policymaking and research. He is committed towards cultivating community inclusion through education, identity development, and artistic expression.
As an undergraduate at the University of Maryland, College Park, he pursued a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and concentration in Second Language Education. He aimed to diversify his experience by exploring a range of his roles, hoping to learn to connect his multifaceted interests. He served as the Marketing Team Manager for the University of Maryland's Student Union, promoting cultural events, work opportunities, and general health resources catered to students. He also worked as a researcher at the Diversity and Intergroup Relations (DIGR) Lab, conducting social psychological research that focused on intergroup relations and prejudice. Michael also volunteered as a textline supporter for the local peer support group Lean on Me at College Park in hopes to uplift his fellow students. All of his involvements further underscore his commitment to empowering underrepresented identities while also better understanding social issues
From his constant desire to be directly involved with supporting the communities he's from, Michael is excited to further his career and support the APIDA (Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American) youth in Maryland. Based on his own experiences, he believes cultivating a space for unconditional support and security for youth allows for healthy development and ensures their future success.
