Hannah Cheyney
Mentoring Program Manager
Hannah Cheyney is AALEAD’s Mentor Program Manager who works with Asian Pacific American youth and adults using a humanistic and culturally responsive approach. Hannah works to provide youth with an additional support system, as she believes that having a mentor can change the trajectory of a youth’s life dramatically and help them become active, engaged 21st century people.
As an undergraduate at Elon University, Hannah studied education, social justice and psychology and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Adventure Based Learning. During her time as an Undergraduate, Hannah worked with various schools and youth programs in Alamance County where she taught, coached, and tutored students. Hannah also brings experience running a one-on-one tutoring and mentoring program with America Reads which focused on improving student academic and social-emotional well-being.
Hannah has always had a passion for social justice, working with children & youth under the age of 18, and helping them grow their social-emotional skills. Being multi-racial, she has experienced being a minority for the majority of her life, and wants to help others who often feel like they are in the minority feel valued for who they are. Hannah has served as a mentor in the past for Big Brothers Big Sisters and seen the difference it can make.
