Summer Intern Spotlight: Daniel Lee

Hello and 안녕하세요! My name is Daniel Lee and I am happy to join the AALEAD DC team! I am passionate and excited about all of the opportunities for growth that AALEAD makes available for AAPI youth.

I was born and raised in SoCal (Southern California), and being raised in a place that was strongly multicultural was a blessing that shaped who I am today. The AAPI community is diverse and talented, and I feel grateful to be able to help foster AAPI youth through education empowerment, identity development, and leadership opportunities.

As soon as I learned about AALEAD through The George Washington University, I knew that this was the organization that I wanted to support and grow with. Especially in light of growing racism and violence towards AAPI’s, I wanted to do what I could to foster self-esteem, build a mental health curriculum, and give back to the next generation of a community that has supported me throughout my life.

Aside from being a student and my work with AALEAD, I also work for a Health Psychology Research Lab at GWU which focuses on biological, social, and psychosocial factors which influence health.

I enjoy nature and when I have free time you can find me hiking, fishing, meditating, and camping all over the U.S. When I’m not in nature, I enjoy playing jazz trumpet and spending time with my mini-schnoodle Watson.

All love,

Daniel Lee
