This past Saturday, 19 AALEADers, including youth, volunteers, mentors, and staff participated in Comcast Cares Day at Houston Elementary School in NE DC.  Comcast Cares Day is their annual celebration of service commitment, which has grown into the nation’s single largest corporate volunteer event.  AALEAD was happy to join for the fourth year in a row!

Participants split into groups to beautify several areas of the school; from painting the school walls, landscaping and laying the foundation for the community garden, painting inspirational murals and quotes from our country’s greatest civil rights leaders, and quotes from favorite children’s books.  Before lunch was served, Mayor Muriel Bowser visited Houston Elementary to discuss the value of service and learning, as well as to thank everyone for spending their Saturday volunteering for the betterment of the school.

Below are some of our youth and their projects:

A huge thanks to Comcast and City Year Washington DC for providing our AALEAD youth this opportunity to give back to their community!
